Working with Wordspecs to develop mutually beneficial business relationships
Let's be very clear from the start. We're all in this together. Wordspecs grows as our clients grow. So, from the "get go," we work with potential clients to clarify our relationship, understand our goals and expectations, and develop the trust and confidence that make for a wonderful collaboration.
Where we begin
We meet with new clients for an initial one-hour consultation. This meeting gives us a chance to get to know you, your business, to review your existing materials and to discuss your current and long-term goals. Then, together, we develop a plan of action. Following this meeting, should you decide to proceed with Wordspecs, we will respond to your RFP (request for a proposal) or RFQ (request for a quotation). Proposals and quotations are provided without obligation and, barring unusual circumstances, without charge.
What we do
We conceptualize, design, and prepare for print, cable TV and the web the materials that market your products and services. Wordspecs also purchases the services you need to execute and distribute your materials. We operate within your budget, deliver within your time frame, and work with you, hand in hand, to achieve the greatest response from your budget and your target market.
Why we satisfy our clients
We put your priorities first, because your success ensures our success. We don't do "dog-and-pony shows," design only to enhance our own portfolio, sell you services you prefer to provide for yourself, or limit you to working with our vendors.
How we charge
We offer our clients a choice of hourly billing or project rates. Our hourly rate is currently $125. If a client prefers project billing, we develop an estimate for your approval. This is an estimate only, as the project scope may change during development or execution. Clients are always notified when the anticipated actual costs exceed the estimate by 10% or more.
Hourly terms: For new clients, a deposit of 50% of estimated costs is due upon initiation of the job. The balance is due upon completion, and before delivery. Once we have established an ongoing relationship, Wordspecs will present invoices, due upon receipt, at intervals mutually agreed upon.
Project terms: one-third on acceptance of proposal, one-third upon completion of design phase, and the balance upon delivery. Outside services/supplies are billed at cost plus 20%; a 50% deposit of estimated costs is requested, the balance due upon delivery. Ongoing projects are usually billed monthly, with separate line items for inside and outside services.
You may also request that Wordspecs send you our detailed Terms and Conditions, which more extensively explains procedures for canceling projects or putting projects on hold.
We don't make this stuff up! Honest! Ownership of artwork, digital files and camera ready art is a complex and dynamic issue. The recent screenwriters' strike certainly brought the issue of reuse of original materials into the public arena.
Wordspecs is a member of the Graphic Artists Guild. We always hold our clients' bests interests in mind while we follow the Code of Fair Practice for the graphic communication industry to protect our concepts, ideas and designs.
Basically, our clients retain ownership of items created or purchased exclusively for them (logos, photography, digital scans, original illustrations, clip art, fonts, printed matter). Other work (concepts, designs, copywriting, digital layouts, camera ready artwork) is sold only for the job or project contracted for. Other rights may be negotiated either before or after commencement of work, by mutual agreement.
Reuse of designs, concepts, copywriting for any project is not permitted without permission. The principle here is "Ask First." We will always be as flexible and cooperative as is reasonable while protecting our own business interests.
Like most, our business survives on repeat orders!
